Amália's Garden is Lisbon's most secret garden, located on Rua de São Bento, the home of Amália Rodrigues where she lived for 44 years. Here we keep alive the memory of the greatest voice of fado and pay homage to the greatest figure in 20th-century Portuguese culture.

The Story of
Amália Rodrigues
Amália Rodrigues (1920–1999) is recognized as the Queen of Fado, the greatest symbol of Portuguese song and a central figure in the country's cultural identity of the last century.
With an intense and unmistakable voice, Amália took fado from the houses of Lisbon to the great international stages, becoming responsible for its worldwide projection.
Her interpretation combined tradition and innovation — keeping fado connected to its popular roots, but also opening space for new sounds and contemporary poets.
Throughout her career, Amália recorded more than 170 albums, sang in several languages, and captivated audiences in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. She was a true cultural ambassador for Portugal, recognized not only for her music but also for the emotional strength and authenticity she conveyed in every performance.
Today, visiting her home and garden is more than just an encounter with music: it's stepping into the history of an artist who helped define what it means to be Portuguese.
